Description
"This is the largest Buddhist stupa (shrine) in the world. It is built on a flat surface of various levels of terraces. It is painted in pastel colours amd adorned with prayer flags.
Set in a Mandala design it has altogether 108 Buddha images and 147 insets of prayer wheels around the base of the huge circular edifice. Boudhanath has the largest community of Tibetans, around twelve thousand in all. "Many of today's Tibetans are refugees who fled Tibet following the unsuccessful uprising against the Chinese Communists in 1959." - Lonely Planet
Notice the prayers printed on each of the flags. The prayers are thought to be scattered to the ether by the winds.
